When we first saw the preview for the new Disney movie FROZEN about a month or so ago, I knew we had to see it. The movie fit two main requirements: (1) It has silly, funny characters (like Olaf the snowman) that my 7-year-old could relate to (he laughed out loud during the trailer), and (2) The stars are heroines that my 2-year-old daughter will likely become obsessed with.
And, yes, even I was excited about the movie, mostly because it features the voices of some of my favorite actresses, including Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel (please let her sing in the movie, please let her sing in the movie…). Plus there’s Jonathan Groff, who I loved on “Glee.”
The movie comes out on Wednesday — just in time for Thanksgiving — which is the perfect timing for us. Why? We spend Thanksgiving down in rural Pennsylvania with my in-laws, and we’re always looking for activities to do with the kiddos. Considering the weather forecast isn’t looking too promising on Wednesday, a movie date with the kiddos, Dr. G. and Grandma sounds like an excellent way to spend an afternoon.
In keeping with the FROZEN spirit, I thought it would be fun to surprise Buddy and Mimi with some FROZEN toys that they could play with during the four days we’re at Grandma’s. Okay, and I may have purchased a few additional items to sock away for Christmas. I couldn’t help it, they were so cute!
So I headed to Walmart and, lo and behold, there was an entire display of merchandise dedicated to FROZEN. And apparently, I wasn’t the only one excited by the release!
The first thing I saw was this talking plush Olaf toy that I knew Buddy would love.
Next I came across this FROZEN complete story set, which includes all the major characters: Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff, Hans and Sven the reindeer. I have a hunch that while Buddy will initially insist these are for Mimi, the two of them will probably play with them together at some point while we’re in Pennsylvania.
And I couldn’t resist buying Mimi an Anna and Elsa doll. Something tells me she is going to love brushing their hair and changing their clothes!
Because I didn’t want Buddy to feel excluded, I was so excited to stumble across this book, which is perfect for my blossoming reader!
And I fell in love with this Anna toddler doll that I am putting away for Mimi for Christmastime. I don’t want to go completely overboard, plus this is the toy that comes in the biggest box, so not bringing it with us will give us precious car space … something that is critical when you’re squeezing two adults, two kids and a dog into a mid-size sedan for a four-day trip.
I think I am going to wait to surprise the kids with their FROZEN toys when we get back from seeing the movie on Wednesday. There is no way they will be expecting this (and hopefully this will keep them entertained for a few days)!
