With all the snow we’ve been having up here in New England (two more feet on Friday!), the idea of shopping for cute, spring-like Easter outfits for the kiddos seems kind of foreign. I’m still inclined to dress them in turtlenecks and snow pants.
But the reality is that Easter is only a few weeks away, and our trip to Disney just a couple weeks after that. I never really go the frilly route for Easter fashion anyway, so I thought maybe this year I’d see if I can get more bang for my buck and find some cute, festive clothes that the kids could wear for Easter that would also be appropriate for Disney, in case we do a nice dinner or two while we are there.
I went to Cookie’s Kids and immediately headed to the girls dresses, then to the girls sundresses, where I found this gorgeous floral dress I knew would be perfect for Mimi. It’s the perfect sundress for Florida, but add tights and a cardigan and voila! Easter fashion, New England style.
Shopping for Buddy was a little more difficult. He doesn’t like getting too dressed up and, again, I wanted to make sure part of his Easter outfit would be Disney-friendly (although I did get a bit caught up in the adorable but unfortunately not very practical boys suits and, surprisingly, the school uniforms, which don’t look like anything I remember from my school days?)
I browsed the boys section for quite awhile and eventually landed in the polo shirt category, where I discovered the perfect polo shirt in his favorite color combination: red, white and blue (so patriotic!). They’ll look great with a pair of navy cargo shorts at Disney.
A few more clicks brought me to this pair of dressier twill cargo pants, also in navy, which will totally work for Easter (and school).
The biggest issue with buying clothes for Buddy is the size. I’m still in a bit of denial that he’s in the regular boys section now; no more toddler sizing. But he seems to fall somewhere in the XS-S, or 5-6 range; the size changes depends on the store or brand. Luckily, Cookie’s Kids has this fantastic sizing helper called AlvaKids. When you’re looking at the item you’re considering for your child, you click on the Alva icon and it opens up a pop-up window where you can plug in your child’s birth date, height, weight, frame size and build. Then presto! They recommend a size.
They came up with a size 7 for the polo shirt for Buddy, which I was a little skeptical about, but I figured I’d give it a go. And they were right – it totally works.
Check out my little models (Buddy, of course, had to wear his Crocs).
Did you notice the prices? Ahh, that’s the best part. I got Mimi’s dress for a whopping $9.99 (yup, you read that right). Buddy’s shirt was $14.99 and the pants were $9.99. Crazy, right?
Definitely check out Cookie’s Kids if you’re looking for cute, quality kids clothes without paying a fortune. In addition to their website, www.CookiesKids.com (which was totally easy to navigate), they also have seven stores in the NYC area (Bronx, Brooklyn and Jamaica). You can also find #CookiesKids on Twitter and Facebook.

I need to check them out. I had to go buy my son new clothes yesterday. The clothes he got for Christmas are too small already. He’s in kindergarten and wears a size 12, I’ll be shopping in the men’s section by 3rd grade if he keeps it up.
