First of all, a big welcome to those of you who found Keeping Mommy Sane from BlogHer!
I was nervous going into this week’s New Food Monday. Buddy didn’t have school because of Rosh Hashanah, so he spent the day with my friend’s husband and their son at the playground, where they jumped and ran and climbed for hours. He also has karate on Monday afternoons. All that activity can only lead to one thing: a tired, cranky Buddy. And a tired, cranky Buddy is generally not very receptive (ahem) to NFM. Especially when he sees his old nemesis on his plate: the evil Mr. Pasta Sauce.
But this time, we tried to be strategic. We only used a scant amount of sauce (although his first words were: “What’s this???” as he held up a microscopic piece of oregano and made a delightful stink face). And we put the sauce on top of …. stuffed shells! I mean, a kid who loves pasta and cheese (separately, of course) would have to at least like all that cheesy ricotta goodness, right?
You can see for yourself.
While he ate maybe 1.25 shells, and was clearly very tired from a day spent chasing his friend and working on his turn kicks at the old dojo, he didn’t complain, didn’t scrutinize every bite (beyond that first oregano encounter) and he actually uttered the words,”I like this!” While ingesting sauce! Hurrah!
So, stuffed shells with minimal sauce, welcome to the G family dinner rotation! We’re sure glad to have you.
(P.S. Wondering what Mimi thought of this week’s NFM? Well, we gave her a pass this week. She came home from daycare with a 101 fever and that horrible sick look in her eyes that kids get, so she enjoyed a large sippy of water and some cheese and crackers.)
