Here it is. It’s Go Time.
Everything is all laid out and ready go to when that alarm goes off at – gulp – 5am tomorrow morning.
I’ve been training for months for tomorrow’s race. I think I can honestly say this is one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever undertaken. And I don’t care how long it takes me, I’m going to do this.
And it means I need to totally rethink my race gear. And stock up on Bodyglide. And round up a few garbage bags.
For some people, that’s not a big deal. But it is for this Type A creature of habit who is, well, not very good at dealing with change or “going with the flow.” The unexpected call for rain has thrown me off my game a bit, and made me even more nervous/anxious than I was before.
But you know what? I will do this.
I’ve been telling people for awhile now that I don’t have a time goal, that my goal is “just to finish.” But that wasn’t quite true. Anyone who knows me knows I am kind of competitive, and hard on myself, and deep down I was hoping for a sub 2:10 race. Now with the weather forecast, I don’t know how likely that is.
So maybe all this rain is a blessing, because now when I say my goal is “just to finish,” I really mean it.
I’ll post a recap as soon as I can. Wish me luck!
