Good morning! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. After a very rainy early Saturday morning here in the Boston area, the weather cleared up and we were treated to two lovely sunny days.
As soon as the rain tapered off on Saturday morning, I headed out for an 8 mile run … my last long run before my half marathon on Sunday! I’ve complained mentioned here before how my allergies took siege about two weeks ago and since then all my runs have been, hmmmm, subpar. I needed — really needed — a strong run going in to race week.
And I got it.
I finished in just under a sub-2:00 half marathon pace, and while my breathing was a little labored at times, I managed to get through it. Woot!
Now that I got that much-needed confidence boost, it’s time to shift my anxieties to the weather for Sunday. Let the weather.com stalking commence!
The race starts at 7 am, so I’m guessing the temps will be in the mid-high 50s … my ideal running temps. So now the question: Shorts? Capris? Tank and arm warmers? Short sleeves? Hat or headband?
Anyway, after my run, we packed up the car and headed to our friends’ for a little impromptu BBQ and it felt glorious to sit outside and feel the sunshine! By the way, we made Trader Joe’s Blondie Brownies to bring with us … amazing!
Later in the afternoon, we headed to Boston to visit with some of our dear friends who just moved back to the area (YAY!).
Because we had the kiddo with us, we decided to order in pizza, and man, I miss food options in the city. I couldn’t get enough of the white artichoke pizza (grilled artichokes, ricotta cheese & garlic mixture, capers, roasted red peppers & mozzarella topped w/ parmesan crisps!). We are sorely lacking decent pizza out here in the ‘burbs.
Of course, we needed dessert (c’mon, the blondies were our lunch dessert), so we walked about a mile to JP Licks … which, if you’re not familiar with it, is sort of an institution in the Boston area when it comes to ice cream.
And they have a giant cow in the restaurant.
I ordered peanut butter cookie dough and it was insane. Sorry, there are no photos, because I gobbled it up in about five seconds.
On Sunday morning, the kiddos accompanied me to the grocery store (always a treat) and then we took Raven for a bath at the self-serve doggie dog wash in town.
Ahhh, pretty girl. And she smells a heck of a lot better, too.
After Buddy’s soccer game, I drove down to Rhode Island to meet my sister at Paint & Vino, a paint and wine studio, to celebrate our birthdays.
This was my second paint-and-wine experience, but my first time doing it at an actual studio. It was a lot of fun! We chatted, sipped on wine, laughed at our lack of artistic ability and enjoyed some sisterly time away from our kiddos.
So that was my weekend in a nutshell. And now on to enjoy my taper week! Happy Monday, friends.
Question: I don’t do a lot of “weekend recap”-type posts, because it’s not like my life is super exciting, but is that something you’d like to see more of? Or are there other types of posts you’d like to see? Let me know in the comments below.
