I will go on the record and say I am not a fan of goodie bags. I (begrudgingly) understand they are a necessary birthday party evil, but do we really need them at daycare?
The photo above represents what I am planning to send in tomorrow for Mimi’s class of fellow toddlers. A Hello Kitty Valentine’s Day card (which comes with it’s own mini – and therefore totally unusable – notepad!) and a bag of vanilla graham Goldfish crackers. No fancy gift bags full of candy and toys and other random trinkets that my daughter won’t even notice (and I’ll end up throwing away.)
We’ll see if this puts me in the minority at daycare. I know firsthand from my years when Buddy was at the same school that there’s usually one mom is every room who goes completely overboard. For whatever reason (guilt? competition? insomnia?) she assembles elaborate (and totally unnecessary) goodie bags for a bunch of 2-year-olds that put the rest of us (who went the whole paper card and maybe a pencil route) to shame.
Check out my post on TheBump.com to hear why I think daycare centers should consider not allowing goodie bags for the holidays. Apparently this has become a controversial and divisive issue among us moms out there …
