I need to do this more often.
This week, I am thankful for:
- My girlfriends. Between working, blogging and freelance writing — not to mention my life as a mom and wife — things have just been insane for the past month or so, and I feel like an absentee friend. I never really get to see my local girls. I mean to call and chat with my gals who live far away, and then something comes up and I forget. My main means of communication these days are cryptic texts and two sentence emails. My friend recently had a baby and I still haven’t called her to catch up, and that is unacceptable.I hate feeling so disconnected from my friends because they mean the world to me. I’m so incredibly thankful for their patience, love and support – and the fact that they get what I’m trying to do here, so (hopefully) they do not take my disappearing act personally. Thanks, ladies, for bearing with me! Love you.
- Raven. I haven’t written much about it here, but our girl has had a rough time of it the last six months. She randomly started having seizures, which I know are common in Labs, but Dr. G. and I were in a bit of denial. They eventually began happening more frequently – and got longer and longer in duration – and we knew we had to do something about it.
We recently started her on phenobarbital, which seems to have stopped the seizures, but she has had a really tough time adjusting to the meds. She’s insanely thirsty and hungry. Because she’s drinking so much water, she’s had some accidents in the house, which she never does. And for that first week, she was just so out of it, not herself. It’s like the meds aged her 10 years. She would follow me around the house and just look at me and whine, like she was confused. Poor girl. But I am thankful that (aside from the ever-present hunger and thirst, which I know is a side effect we may have to live with) she is starting to resemble her old self again.
- Rhody Bloggers. Last weekend, our local group (thanks to the amazing efforts of Melissa and Jen) banded together and raised $10,000 for our fellow blogger Melissa, whose 2-year-old daughter was diagnosed with leukemia after Christmas. Jen and Melissa (along with the fabulous Jake at La-Z-Boy in Warwick) coordinated a 48-hour Sit-A-Thon fundraiser at the La-Z-Boy store, staffed by the Rhody Bloggers For Good, that included everything from special guests (former Patriots players, princesses and even Santa!), games and activities for the kids and an unbelievable array of raffle prizes. Participating in this was such a rewarding experience for me personally, and it also gave me an opportunity to not just talk to my kids about the importance of helping others, but to show them as well.
What are you thankful for this week?
