As many of you know, I am a bit of a caffeine junkie, but during the summer, my caffeine tastes shift from a cup (or three) of joe to tea … iced tea, specifically. I’m not a huge fan of powdered iced tea mixes and I don’t like most pre-made iced teas that you find at the convenience store, yet for some reason the idea of brewing iced tea myself, using regular old tea bags, never occurred to me. But I decided to give it a whirl, especially when I stumbled across this yummy-sounding tea from Bigelow Tea.
I like Bigelow tea and drink a lot of it during the winter (the Vanilla Chai is one my all-time favorites!). I love how they have so many different flavors in both caffeinated and decaf varieties (which are perfect for those times when I need a cup of tea in the evenings). But from April through October, my vast tea collection usually sits collecting dust in my kitchen cabinet.
But as soon as I saw Bigelow Pomegranate tea, and read the instructions on the side of the package for brewing iced tea, I thought it would be a perfect drink to bring with me on our trip into Boston on Sunday for a sailing cruise around Boston Harbor.
And you know what? Not only was it delicious, but it was ridiculously easy. As in a, Um, why haven’t I done this before? kind of easy.
When I got up on Sunday morning, I put the kettle on and placed a few of the tea bags in a plastic pitcher for brewing. I dumped the boiling water in, eyeballing the amount of water I thought I needed, and put the pitcher in the fridge. After about 5-10 minutes, I removed the tea bags, but let the iced tea continue chilling while I snuck out for a quick run and got the kiddos ready for our adventure.
Just before we were ready to leave, I filled up my new water bottle (which I purchased at Walmart when I bought the tea), added a teaspoon of Truvia, and voila! We were set. I even had about half the pitcher left (I brought some to work with me yesterday!).
Bonus? I love how my new bottle fits in the side pocket of my diaper bag – perfect for moms (and dads) on the go.
We arrived in Boston early, for once, so we settled in at a table at the harbor while we ate some sandwiches I packed from home, and I ended up drinking nearly all of my iced tea … before we even boarded. Ooops!
But you know what? It’s okay, because it kept me hydrated and refreshed while we enjoyed all this.
We have a ton of other family adventures coming up this summer (New York City, Storyland in New Hampshire, etc.) so I’m excited that I figured out how easy, yummy and convenient it is to brew my own iced tea!

I am jealous of your cruise around the harbor, Boston is a city I have always wanted to visit!! I love Bigelow Tea, and it really is so easy to brew and take along. It saves money too, when you don’t have to buy all those expensive drinks when you and your family are out.

That looks DELISH. Perfect for a hot day (or any day). AND I love that it is budget friendly. I will be doing this asap.
