This is so crazy. Me? Featured by Women’s Running magazine? Seriously?
I was shocked, thrilled and – yes – honored when I was contacted by the magazine to be interviewed and featured as one of their “Bloggers on the Run” because I couldn’t believe they wanted to include me. So many of the well-known healthy living and running bloggers I’ve followed over the years have been profiled in the very same spot, women who have completed dozens of marathons and train for Ironmans and regularly clock 7:30 minute/miles in their races.
Um, yeah, that’s not me.
I admit that part of me feels like a bit of a fraud – and slightly intimidated – to be included in the same company as some of these other incredible women. Because I’m not an elite athlete. I don’t even come close.
But then I realized what a special gift this was, because here is an opportunity to represent runners like me! The “mother runners” who get up before dawn to squeeze in a 5-miler while the kids are asleep because it’s the only time they can run. The runners just getting started who are celebrating their first 5K or 10K. The “average” runners who finish in the middle of the pack but still cross that finish line with a huge smile on their face, arms raised in victory, awash in a sense of pride and excitement.
We may not qualify for Boston, but we’re all inspirational — regardless of our mileage or pace or how many medals we have. We all work hard. We all put one sneaker in front of the other. We all choose to run.
We’re all runners.
And that’s why I’m proud to be a “Blogger on the Run.”
So please do me a favor and check out my interview on the Women’s Running website, and if you comment at the end of it, you will be entered to win a one year subscription to Women’s Running magazine (which I already subscribe to and is one of my faves!).
Tell me: Why do YOU run?
