I love Halloween. I love Haunted Houses and trick-or-treating and spooky songs. But one thing I’m not too fond of? Scary movies. At least not anymore.
I wrote this post for The Bump a year or so ago about being surprised to discover I didn’t enjoy scary movies anymore after having kids. Because all of a sudden they’re were silly or fun … they became, well, scary.
Because whenever I saw some C-list starlet meet an untimely death onscreen, my only thoughts were,“What if that was my child?” Even watching disaster/apocalypse movies make me panic because I automatically start thinking about how I would save my kids if my family was ever caught in such a terrifying situation.
It’s like that scene from “Scream” … “Do you like scary movies?”
Um, not anymore.
Lucky for me, no one in my family is a big fan of scary movies either … especially Buddy. But he does still enjoy the idea of Halloween and Halloween movies — just without the scariness.
So that’s why I’m thrilled Netflix has so many fun movies and shows that keep with the spirit of Halloween and are mysterious and maybe slightly spooky (for older kids) without prompting nightmares.
Here are some of our favorites for both little kids and big kids:
Dreamworks Spooky Stories 2
Nightmare Before Christmas
Curious George BooFest
Dreamworks Spooky Stories The Addams Family
Spooky Buddies
All of these movies — and other more scary titles — are available for streaming on Netflix!
Are you a fan of scary movies?
