How does that saying go? “Everything old is new again?”
As a child of the ’80s, I have seen this happening firsthand with my kids. First, the toys I loved as a little girl (Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, My Little Pony) are back…and more popular than ever.
Now, the same thing is happening with TV shows and movies I loved as a child. “The Smurfs,” “Scooby Doo,” “Boy Meets World,” and “Inspector Gadget,” and, actually, even “Star Wars” have been rebooted for a whole new generation (um, and that’s not even counting the new “Fuller House” Netflix show coming next year.)
While it sometimes feels like everything is getting a redo these days, it is kind of fun to share in this with my kids, to connect with them about things I loved when I was their age. I mean, Mimi is obsessed with “My Little Pony,” while Buddy loves himself some “Star Wars: Clone Wars.”
Now if only I could find a way to make them understand how “totally awesome” ABC’s TGIF lineup was back in the day (although I definitely do not miss Steve Urkel). Hmmm….
Here are 12 Netflix must-watch throwbacks for all ages…
- Inspector Gadget
- Danger Mouse
- My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic
