It’s hard to forget, given the unseasonably chilly (and rainy) weather we’ve had here in New England last week, but it’s true: the official start of summer is just a few days away. All I have do is look at the calendar, and I see Buddy’s last day of school is less than a week away, camp starts the following week and 4th of July will be here before we know it.
Our plan is to have a low-key summer, which is all fine and good, but being the Type A planner that I am, I couldn’t help but jot down just a few favorite activities I’d love to do this summer.
-
Makes sandcastles and bury Buddy in the sand, one of his favorite beach activities
-
Enjoy (at least) one Del’s Frozen Lemonade
-
Visit the beach and ride the waves with my kids
-
Read two new books
-
Wear my two-piece bathing suit with confidence … and without a sarong or cover-up
-
Go to the drive-in theater
-
Take my kids to see a movie under the stars
-
Go to a baseball game and eat Cracker Jacks
-
Learn how to leverage our new summer farm share
-
Go for a family bike ride … with Buddy joining us on his new two-wheeler
-
Go strawberry picking
-
Have a picnic
-
Sail around Boston Harbor
-
Play mini-golf
-
Watch fireworks
-
Go for a family hike
-
Play bocce ball in the backyard
-
Fly a kite with my kids
What are your “must do” activities in the summer?

Great list! I recommend “And the Mountains Echoed” – the new book by Khaled Hosseini (author of Kite Runner) – another breathtaking book!
Happy Summer!

Thanks for the recommendation, Leah! I remember when I would read dozens of books over the summer. Now two seems ambitious 🙂 But I loved the Kite Runner so I can’t wait to check this out.
