Once upon a time, I used to have five or six TV shows I would watch religiously, usually a mix of reality TV (“Project Runway,” “Amazing Race”) and drama (“Lost,” “Gilmore Girls,” “Sex and the City.”).
But over time, that number has slowly dwindled down to one: NBC’s “Parenthood.” (Well, two, if you count “House Hunters,” which I will watch whenever I am cable surfing and it is on.)
I don’t know why that is, although I suspect it’s a combination of lack of time, sheer exhaustion (those 5am workouts rear their ugly head at 9pm), and lack of interest.
However, this means whenever people start up their watercooler conversations about last’s night episode of “Mad Men” or the “big death” on “Downton Abbey” or the latest elimination on “American Idol,” I have no clue what they’re talking about.
So I think it’s funny that the last couple of Friday nights, Dr. G. and I have decided to watch one those buzzed-about shows on Netflix — “Orange is the New Black” — rather than renting a movie like we normally would.
We’re only three episodes in to Season One (so no spoilers, please!!!), and I am kinda hooked. What an incredible cast and storyline, and, of course, the writer in me always appreciates a good script. The only thing I have to remember when watching is to keep the volume down so the kids don’t wake up to hear the, um, colorful language.
Here are some more TV shows (some more familiar than others) to settle down with on a Friday night ….
1. Orange is the New Black (of course)
2. Scandal
3. Pretty Little Liars
4. Weeds
5. Call the Midwife
6. Freaks and Geeks
7. Sherlock
8. Breaking Bad
9. Parenthood (yay!)
10. Shameless
11. Top of the Lake

I want to watch Breaking Bad, House of Card, Orange is the New Black, and Scandal. Just worried if I start I will lose all ability to do anything else.

I’ve heard really good things about House of Cards, too!! I’m hoping to zip thru season 1 of OITNB so I can talk season 2 with everyone. But, sadly, I’m finding its hard to squeeze in a hour-long show between work, kids, etc. 🙂

I love Scandal. My summertime fun choice is Big Brother 🙂
