Last week was a so-so week, in terms of meal planning and workouts. We had a few bumps in the road that derailed us a bit (I felt kind of crummy after my colonoscopy, we had a sick pup on Thursday night and had to make an emergency run to the vet … that sort of thing) and I have to keep reminding myself that it’s okay. Because sometimes life just happens. All I can do is just try my best this week.
But I admit that might be a little challenging. Dr. G. has a crazy work schedule coming up, including travel, and the temps here in the Boston area are going to be in the low 90s again. I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to motivate to cook anything that involves the stove or oven when the temps get that high – especially since we don’t have central air in our house. This is the kind of weather that makes me just want to make a bowl of cold cereal for dinner, if I’m hungry at all. Anyone else feel that way? Any tips?
Drink More H20 update: Last week’s colonoscopy forced me to drink a lot of fluid the beginning of the week … and then I tailed off, like usual, toward the end. But my test prep proved one thing: I do MUCH better when I can drink things from a straw. So I bought this bad boy from Target yesterday. 32 oz!!!! I’ll let you know how it goes.
Here’s what I’m tentatively planning this week:
Meal Plan
Sunday: Almond gazpacho – holdover from last week (and since it’s a cold soup, it will make for yummy leftovers this week!). I’m also planning on making some zucchini muffins this week for the kids, since we have a ton of smaller ones from our farm share.
(New Food) Monday: In my attempt to get my kids to eat things that are (a) mixed up (Buddy) and (b) have veggies (Mimi), I’m copying a dish my friend makes for her kids and whipping up some quinoa mixed with broccoli and cheese. I’m being cautiously optimistic.
Tuesday: We got a GIANT zucchini (seriously, it’s like a zucchini on ‘roids) in this week’s farm share, so I’m trying to find a good vegetarian stuffed zucchini recipe. Anyone have one??
Wednesday: Single moms pizza and wine night!
Thursday: Just me and the kiddos tonight … thinking this might be a tacos/quesadilla or silly dinner night.
Friday: Annie’s mac and cheese for kiddos; “kitchen sink” salad for Dr. G. and I.
Saturday: We’re heading into Boston fora fun family day, including a sailing cruise around Boston Harbor! I have a feeling we’ll end up grabbing dinner while we’re in the city. Such a treat to go out to eat outside the suburbs!
By the way, I got a few questions last week about our “kitchen sink” salad. It’s basically a salad using all sorts of veggies in our fridge that need to be used up. Then we add a protein source or two, like a hardboiled egg, chick peas, edamame, Gardein strips (occasionally), etc.
My workout schedule is going to be impacted this week by Dr. G.’s travel and the high temps, which makes going out for a noontime run at work on my lunch break less than appealing. Oh well, it is what it is this week.
Workout Plan
Sunday: 6 miles (without my Garmin – I think I just need to get out there and run at whatever pace I feel like, without the competitor in me constantly checking my time and subconciously scolding myself when my pace is slower than I’d like)
Monday: Body Pump in the AM
Tuesday: 4 mile run (outside in AM, weather permitting)
Wednesday: 50 minute AM elliptical workout in basement
Thursday: Weights/abs workout in basement
Friday: Boot Camp in AM
Saturday: Rest day
(And our gal, Raven, is feeling MUCH better after a diagnosis of Lyme disease; the wonders of pet pharmaceuticals!)

Question: Does your weekly schedule get impacted by the hot and humid temps? If so, how?

I love that your bottle is called BUBBA!

Ugh- yes. The heat makes it much harder to get excited about meal planning! We move in a week or so and it just hit us that the new house doesn’t have central air either… should be interesting!

It’s humid here too but I’ve managed to stay on track with training. That means out the door at sunrise and get most of the run done before the humidity is too high.
I do better when drinking with a straw too!
I host the link up with Laura and just wanted to say thanks for joining 🙂
