I will try to get through my rundown of this week’s meal plan without getting sick.
Just the sort of opener I’m sure you were looking for with a weekly dinner menu post, right?
But on Friday afternoon, I came down with a sudden (and pretty brutal) flu-like illness, complete with queasiness and a general loss of appetite. For two days. So I will admit, these dishes I had picked out late last week are kind of turning my stomach now (although I am sure they will be delicious once my appetite returns), so please forgive my lack of commentary about them.
Meal Plan
Sunday: Honestly, we are gonna wing this one. I am not sure what I’ll be able to handle.
Monday: Asparagus with eggs with some crusty bread or baguette
Tuesday: Veggie burgers w/kale and shaved Brussel sprout salad
Wednesday: Spicy chickpea wraps w/baked sweet potato fries
Thursday: Some sort of pasta dish
Friday: TBD
Saturday: Ski weekend! Dinner on the mountain (I love saying that :>)
Sunday: Super Bowl Sunday/Junk Food Dinner
Did you notice I didn’t include separate dinners for the kids? I recently finished reading “French Kids Eat Everything” and it was such an eye-opener, so I’m slowly starting to adopt some of those strategies in an attempt to get my kids to be more adventurous eaters. Kind of like a New Food Monday 2.0.
Part of that includes the way we approach new foods with them, as well as slightly tweaking our meals so that they’ll be be more willing to eat what we’re having (AKA no special chicken nuggets meals just for them). I’m kind of excited to embark on this new project and I promise to share the details with you soon!
Workout Plan
You know what’s torture to a runner? Buying new sneakers (Brooks Dyad 7!) and not being able to actually use them. Arhggh! But that’s what happens when the husband is out of town, and momma gets sick. To say I am looking forward to testing them out this week would be an understatement.
But one upside of a forced rest period? My piriformis injury is actually feeling much better! Perhaps all those people who preached the benefits of downtime were right? Fingers crossed!
So with all that being said, you’d think this week’s exercise plan would be a piece of cake this week. Ehhhh, not so fast. Since we’re out of town this weekend, I need to do a little juggling with my workouts — and I have to find a way to squeeze in hot yoga, since I haven’t been in two weeks.
Sunday: Still recovering
Monday: Will play it by ear, depending on how I am feeling, but hoping to make it to Body Pump
Tuesday: Hot yoga
Wednesday: Body Pump
Thursday: 3-4 miles (with new sneakers!!!!)
Friday: Boot camp
Saturday: Ski weekend!
So what’s the ski weekend I keep referring to? Dr. G., the kiddos and I are headed up to Loon Mountain in Lincoln, N.H. (about 2.5 hours away) for a fun-filled weekend of snowboarding (Dr. G.), ski lessons (Buddy), tot tubing (Mimi), and drinking hot toddies in the lounge (me). But the highlight of our trip will be checking out the incredible Ice Castles exhibit, right there on the mountain.
Seriously, it looks like something out of “Frozen.” Mimi might never want to leave.
I’m planning a full recap next week, so stay tuned!
What are you looking forward to this week? Is it a dinner you’re excited to make? A workout you’re counting the minutes to? An upcoming weekend getaway?

I need to read that book! I read a fascinating article on French children’s eating habits and how much better they are than American kids. It was eye-opening. Hmm, I have to put some thought into our Superbowl plans, I forgot that was Sunday!

Totally pinning those spicy chickpea wraps. They combine so many of my favorite ingredients, not the least of which is Sriracha!
