It looks like I’ll be running my first official race in the rain.
I’ve been extremely lucky so far to avoid running races in any real inclement weather. Cold, yes. Heat, yes. But rain or snow or really high winds? Nope, nope, and nope.
But that will likely change tomorrow at the NU Hartford Marathon and Half Marathon.
Who knows, maybe running in the rain will motivate me to run faster, simply to be done and get dry? Maybe it won’t be as torturous as I’ve been building it up to be in my head, with visions of blisters and chafing and soggy shoes?
Either way, the forecast is forcing me to reevaluate my goals with this race. I’ve separated them into what I think are pretty respectable A, B and C goals.
A: Sub-2:00 goal. Yep, I’m still putting it out there, even with the elements and chilly race temps.
B: Run strong without stopping.
C: Beat my 2:05 ZOOMA time from a few weeks ago.
At least this way I’m — hopefully — setting myself up to feel good when I near the home stretch and cross that finish line.
In the meantime, I’ll be stocking up on Ziploc bags, trash bags and throwaway ponchos 🙂
Anyway, I’m off to Hartford! Feel free to follow along with me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Thanks for your support and stay tuned for a race recap early next week!

I just looked at your Instagram and I am so sorry that it was so bad! Cold rain is the worst…it isn’t as bad in the summer. Good for you for pushing through!
