Oh, Mimi. My imaginative, tall-tale-telling girl.
You are going to give me more gray hair, aren’t you?
On Saturday morning, she informed me (verbatim), “Last night I sneaked and stole your car and picked up Alexandra and we drove to Boston.”
Say whaaaaaat? Aren’t you 3 freaking years old?? Don’t I have, I don’t know, like 13 more years before you sneak out of the house at night and steal my car?
And then on Saturday night, she wove this long tale — looking us straight in the eye — about Lady Lambada, the 45-year-old zombie baseball player (who moonlights for both the Red Sox and Yankees) with five pitches who pilots Mickey Mouse’s plane (based put of Boston) but has her skin inside her body and no eyes.
#HolyImagination
Okay, I know in both cases she’s not technically lying, and I know I should be impressed with her obviously wild imagination. And it’s not like we, as parents, never, ever lie (remember my post about 10 Lies I’ve Told My Kids?). But these instances do provide an opportunity to talk with Mimi about lying and the truth.
In fact, there are a number of kid-friendly Netflix titles related to lying and honesty that we may have to add to our queue to help prove our point.
For example, for your little kids (like Mimi):
|
1. The Gruffalo
2. Care Bears: S1E8, Untruths and Consequences
3. Veggie Tales in the House: S1E9, Lie-monade
4. Little Princess: S1E9, I Didn’t Do It
|
1. Totally Spies!
2. A.N.T. Farm: S3E9, Pants on Fire
3. Spy School
4. Jessie: S1E14, World Wide Web of Lies
How do you handle kids either lying or telling tall tales?
I am part of the Stream Team ambassador program for Netflix. I was not compensated for my time, but I was provided product to use to facilitate my thoughts and reviews. All opinions listed are 100% my own.

I think this is totally an age thing! My youngest is only a month younger than Mimi and he is doing the same thing! He recently told us about how when he was a baby, he was mountain climbing with his Papa and they found a bear cave! Haha
