I love lucy.
Sorry, I couldn’t resist. But it’s true. I am loving the lucy activewear line.
lucy is relatively new to the activewear market, having launched in 1999 by a group of women who felt workout wear should not only support your athletic pursuits, but should be stylish and flattering, too. Holler.
So about a month or so ago, I wandered into a local lucy store and after trying on several items, I immediately zeroed in on the Long Distance Run Shorts II.
I am picky about running shorts — they can’t be too short (like most women’s running shorts) or too long. There needs to be a wide, adjustable, comfortable waistband (no muffintop, please). And built-in mesh undergarments are a must.
Check, check, and check. I’ve worn these shorts on several of my training runs and I love them … so much so that I’m also ordering them in a pretty aqua color, too.
So you can imagine my delight when the lovely ladies at lucy offered to send over a few items — the Runner’s High Tank (currently on sale!) and the Worth the Weight’s Capri — for me to check out. Yes, please! I was so excited that the waistband of the capris had the same features as my running shorts! Plus they are made of smooth, moisture-wicking material, and there are sections of mesh ventilation strategically placed throughout. I’ve run in them several times now and they are really comfortable!
I also am a fan of the dark gray/orange color combo (called asphalt), and I thought the sizing was pretty accurate (I got a medium).
My one complaint is that they don’t have an external zipper pocket on the back waistband; there is only one of those small, driver’s license-sized fold over pockets inside the waistband (which I’m personally not crazy about). So that could be an issue if you’re going for a long run and need to bring lots of fuel.
They’re also on the pricier side ($79), but for those who frequent some of the other specialty running/yoga/activewear stores (you know which ones), the prices are pretty comparable. So it’s a bit of an investment, but it’s definitely a high quality product.
As far as the tank, well, let’s just say it’s going to be my go-to racing tank this summer. The material is loose and lightweight and there is a strip of mesh ventilation all along the back, so it’s perfect for those hot and steamy runs. It’s hard to tell from the photo, but the hem is a little asymmetrical — it’s a little longer than the front — which makes it quite flattering.
I’m excited that they’re on sale ($29!) and am definitely considering picking up another one in a different color (I got the black tank, but am coveting the Ultramarine and Lavender Glow colors). Again, I also thought the sizing was right on target (another medium).
One other plus about lucy? Free shipping! Need I say more? You can also check out their website for store locations and authorized lucy retailers.
Have you tried lucy activewear before? Any favorites?
A big thank you to the team at lucy for sending me these samples to review! All reviews and opinions are, as always, my own.
