We’re just about one month into the school year and my head is already spinning.
The four of us (okay, three of us … it’s hard to put any of this on 3-year-old Mimi) seem to be going in different directions. And don’t even talk to me about our weekend schedule. Lots of fun events, but every weekend there’s something, from soccer games to birthday parties, never mind the activities we want to do as a family, like apple picking.
But with all the craziness, I like to keep Friday nights free. That’s our night to have an easy dinner (macaroni and cheese for the kiddos, veggie burgers and sweet potato fries for the adults) and just spend time together as a family.
Many weeks, that includes a movie … which I admit is challenging, when you have to accommodate the tastes and comprehension levels of an 8-year-old boy who prefers dinosaurs and potty humor and 3-year-old girl who only has eyes for princesses and sparkly things.
Luckily, Netflix has a good selection of titles that both kids will like. All we need then is a big bowl of popcorn, our comfy clothes, and to snuggle in and get cozy.
Here are some suggestions for your little ones (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 is a big hit in our house):
1. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2
2. The Pirate Fairy
3. Hoodwinked
4. Angelina Ballerina
5. Bob the Builder
6. The Muppet Movie
For the bigger kids, you may want to check out:
1. Strange Hill High
2. The Avengers
3. The Smurfs 2
4. Star Wars: The Clone Wars
5. Free Birds
6. Mako Mermaids: An H2O Adventure
And, honestly, I’m kind of looking forward to the day when I can show Buddy and Mimi some of MY favorite movies, like Clueless and The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller’s Day Of. Though do I really want Mimi walking around saying, “As if!” Hmmm.
1. Clueless
2. The Breakfast Club
3. Friday Night Lights
4. The Vampire Diaries
5. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
6. 13 Going on 30
Now normally we like to get all cozy on the couch when we watch our movies, but have you ever tried building a blanket fort for movie night? Love this idea! Click here for instructions for a DIY Fort Blanket.
Do you have any Friday night family traditions?
