I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time finding workout shirts that I like. The tight compression-style shirts hug my rolls curves a little too much and just make me feel uncomfortable. Meanwhile, the looser-fitting tops drive me nuts, especially when you can feel them bouncing up and down during a run.
But with my half-marathon looming ahead (6 weeks!), I realized I needed to think about what kind of top to wear, and given the likelihood of a warm day, I had to consider the material (wicking, anti-microbial and breathable, for sure) and fit.
I recently tried this classic racerbank tank from Albion Fit, a small, family-owned company from Utah that makes women’s fitness, swimwear and workout clothing (all designed by women!). At first I was a little nervous because the tank is definitely form-fitting. But – shockingly – it didn’t cling in all the uncomfortable (and unflattering) ways because the fabric is a little heavier than most. In fact, I felt pretty good in it.
But the the true test was to come.
Because of the fit, there was no way I could get a sports bra on underneath. It’s not like I’m particularly well-endowed, but the idea of running without a sports bra makes me crazy nervous. The shirt has a built-in bra – would that be enough? I felt, let’s say, packed in with this shirt, so I decided to give it a go during one of my early morning training runs at the gym.
You know what? It was awesome. No bouncing or other funky stuff going on. Everything was … secure. And the tank did an excellent job in the mositure wicking department, too. Plus, it’s a cute top – love the V-neck and ruching in the chest area and the cute flower detail on the side.
I’m definitely considering wearing this in May for Boston’s Run to Remember.
