I haven’t done of these “Currently…” posts since before the holidays, so I figured it was time for an update! Feel free to play along in the comments section.
Currently Reading: I am sort of going through a Liane Moriarty obsession right now. After reading (well, listening) to Big, Little Lies (which was amazing), I moved on to The Husband’s Secret, What Alice Forgot and now I’m halfway through The Hypnotist’s Love Story. This will tide me over until the new Elin Hilderbrand and Jennifer Weiner books come out this summer!
Currently listening to: Besides my audiobooks? Just kidding. The kiddos and I are really into the Maroon 5 station on Pandora right now. Mimi likes it because they play enough Taylor Swift (or Taylor “Smith”) to meet her T.S. daily quota, Buddy likes it because they play “Shut Up and Dance with Me” (because who doesn’t love an excuse to say “shut up” without getting into trouble because it’s part of a song?), and my musical tendencies skew towards Top 40 these days, so it’s a win-win-win (well, except for Dr. G., who thinks we’re all crazy).
I will note that I only listen to this type of music when in the car or when I’m cooking dinner, because I’ve apparently become my mother. However, my running tunes are definitely a little more hard core (um. if Flo Rida, Pitbull and ’80s metal counts as hard core?)
Current Show Network: HGTV. It’s sad. If it’s on HGTV, I will watch it, even when I find the hosts annoying (yep, I’m talking to you, Tarek and Christina) or the show kind of boring (“Rehab Addict”). But seriously, give me a “House Hunters” marathon any day and I will be one happy girl. And while it took me some time to come around, I’m also a big fan of both “Love It or List It” and “Property Brothers.”
And is it me, but are all HGTV shows besides “House Hunters” based in Canada?? What’s up with that?
Current Needs: A pedicure. (I’ll spare you a photo).
Currently Loving: My new Vince Camuto sandals! I got them at DSW, and between a sale and a coupon, they came out to be $40.
Currently Working On: Our basement! Remember that project I referenced four or five months ago?
At long last, we’re laying the floor tomorrow (I say we, but it’s really Dr. G) and once that’s done, there are only a few other small things to take care of (new light in the stairwell, new French glass door at the top of the stairs from our main hallway, etc.) and then the fun begins…decorating!
Currently Excited For: My belated anniversary overnight getaway in Boston with Dr. G. next weekend (love this tradition) and our family’s Cape Cod vacation in July! The idea of unplugging for a whole week sounds heavenly.
Current Annoyance: This is more on behalf of Mimi, but not only do mosquitoes find the poor girl delicious, but she is also highly allergic to them. When most people get a bite that’s itchy and annoying, poor Mimi gets a massive welt. So unfortunately she’s a kid I have to douse in bug spray because even keeping her arms and legs covered a long-sleeved shirt and pants doesn’t help.
A friend told me that rubbing antiperspirant on a brand new bite can help – something about the aluminum drawing the venom out? Anyone else have any tips for dealing with mosquitos and mosquito bites?
Current Workout: Right now I’m doing a mix of running (first significant trail race is on Monday, followed by the Newport 10 Miler on June 7!), Body Pump, and barre class and this seems to be the right ratio for me.
Current Beverage: Besides flavored Polar seltzer ?? (Love the Blueberry Lemonade flavor!) Well, it is iced coffee season! Thankfully, my favorite Snickerdoodle hot coffee is also available in our local coffee shop in an iced version. Score!
Currently Laughing At: This adorable card Buddy made for his teacher for Teacher Appreciation Week. Is it a thank you note or a love letter?
Runner-up #1: The funny dance Buddy did the other day during his baseball game when he made an incredible throw from third to first base to throw a runner out … something you don’t see a lot of with 7-8 year olds. Everyone cheered and my son – never one to shy away from the spotlight (see his newfound love: improv class) – did a strange dance right there in the infield that reminded me of Elaine Benes from Seinfeld (you know what I’m talking about, right??). I wish I had recorded that.
Runner-up #2: The fancy outfit my 3-year-old put together herself on Sunday for Buddy’s soccer and baseball games (which those of you who follow me on Instagram saw over the weekend), which she then accessorized on the field with her friend’s umbrella. I joked the caption should be, “Excuse me, which way to the Kentucky Derby?”
