I have a confession to make: I have had the worst case of writer’s block this month. As you may have noticed from the lack of posts in January.
I’m not sure what’s at the root of it. A huge project at work that I’ve been stressing about? The cold, dark winter? All of the above?
But I’ve learned over the years that the best way to conquer writer’s block is just to start writing again. Anything. And that’s when I realized I haven’t done a “Currently…” post since last spring (um, how is that possible?!). You know, when I share some of the things I’m currently loving/hating, etc.
Ahhh, problem solved.
Current Watching
There are officially 14 days — that’s TWO WEEKS — until “Scandal” returns. Not that I’m counting. (And by the way, did you hear that when “Scandal” returns it will be six months later?? Hmmm.)
Although I have started watching “Homeland” to fill the void. And I’m come around the adorableness that is Chip and Joanna on HGTV’s “Fixer Upper.”
Currently Loving
Speaking of “Scandal,” I’m kind of obsessed with my Olivia Pope wineglasses…
… and my new J.Crew winter coat that I got for a STEAL (50% off!) at the J. Crew Factory Store at the Tanger Outlets at Foxwoods Resort Casino just before the holidays. The color is soooo not me (it’s a peachy-beige and I was pretty nervous about a light color coat with two little kids), and the fur collar is sooooo not me, but for some reason it totally works and I love it.
Current Needs
A haircut. Big time.
Currently Excited For
Our ski weekend! We’re headed up to Smugglers’ Notch Resort in Vermont for a few days of snow, fun, hot chocolate, and more. I’m really looking forward to trying out snowshoeing for the first time (everyone I know who has done it before raves about it), including a backcountry snowshoe tour that I signed up for on Saturday.
Although I think the person most excited is Miss Mimi, who has been literally bouncing off the walls all week in anticipation of going to the “winter fun place.” Hope she retains some of that excitement when we drop her off at ski school for the first time tomorrow morning! (You can follow our adventures this weekend on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.)
Currently Reading
I literally just finished “Saving Grace” by Jane Green, but for all my fellow readers out there, here’s the list of all the (audio)books I’ve finished over the last few months, in case you’re looking for a new read (I’d recommend them all!): “Orphan Train” by Christina Baker Kline (soooooo good); “Winter Stroll” and “Winter Street,” both by Elin Hilderbrand; “Luckiest Girl Alive” by Jessica Knoll; and “Pretty Girls” by Karin Slaughter.
Currently Laughing At
Is it me, or does Mimi’s dollhouse dad (grandfather?) resemble Bill Clinton?

Getting up at 4:30am for my 5am spin class at the gym (which is literally 2 minutes up the street), and arriving with a good 10 minutes to spare to find there wasn’t a single bike left. I know you could argue that I could get up earlier if I really want to go, but I’m sorry, I refuse to get up any earlier than FOUR FREAKING THIRTY for a gym class that takes me 90 seconds to drive to.
What bothers me most is that they could fit probably a dozen more bikes in the room, but for some reason the gym owners refuse to purchase more — whether it’s because of the price, or they don’t have anywhere to store them, or they just assume the class is full of “January Joiners” (which is totally not the case). And that’s not taking into consideration the fact that 3 or 4 of the existing 12 bikes are broken in some way.
In any event, I love our instructors and I know they feel bad (even though it’s totally not their fault) and they’re thinking maybe an online signup system might help, which is a great idea but one they shouldn’t have to manage themselves. But know what might also help? Inviting the gym owners to one of those 5am classes and seeing (a) how busy it is, (b) how crappy some of the bikes are, and (c) how upset they’re regular clients are when they show up at 4:45am and get turned away.
Anyone experience this at their gym? Any suggestions?
Currently Smiling About
The boy has discovered the wonder of Harry Potter and is LOVING it!!! I’ve been waiting for this. It’s so magical (no pun intended) reading this together and watching him experience this wonderful story for the first time.

A physical therapy consult yesterday that shed a surprising light on what could be the cause of all my foot issues over the last 6-8 months. I always knew I had a weak core (hello, two c-sections) but who would have thought a weak core could potentially impact my feet? Yet with one test after another, it was definitely clear that my core is causing me to do a bunch of funky things (mechanically speaking) when I run. While I know simply strengthening my core isn’t the magic bullet I’ve been looking for, there’s no doubt it will help in some capacity and I feel more optimistic than I have in awhile.

‘Nuff said.

The big 4-0 that is just a few months away. Oy. Although this video makes it bit more bearable 🙂
