Shopping for warm weather clothes to wear on our Disney trip a few months ago had an unexpected benefit: my summer wardrobe is complete.
This year, I have been really drawn to bright shorts matched with neutral tops. And I’ve started to loosen my definition of neutral these days, adding black-and-white striped tops and gauzy, cream-colored Ts to the mix.
The best part about this aesthetic is that it’s totally mix-and-match, which makes getting dressed in the morning a breeze (a must when I have Mimi demanding her mini-pancakes and Buddy whining about wanting to watch “Phinneas and Ferb”).
It also works out well on those days when I have to change my clothes by mid-afternoon because Mimi decided to use my shirt as a tissue or Buddy wiped his sticky, Popsicle hands on my shorts.
It was actually on our Disney trip that I discovered Tide Pods for the first time. Everyone had been raving about them but I never got around to trying them out. But I grabbed a convenient travel size to tuck into my suitcase so I could do some laundry at our resort, and I’ve been a fan ever since.
Fabric softener, though, is something I admit has always intimidated me. What exactly is it? How does it work? I recently tried it out and this lavender scent is amazing. My clothes smelled so fresh and clean – no small feat when you have a 6-year-old boy and a potty-training toddler in the house. Plus, since all of my mix-and-match Ts and shorts are cotton, it helps keep them feeling softer and looking newer longer.
Earlier this week, I decided to try three laundry products together: Tide, Downy and Bounce fabric sheets (which I love but in my laziness – and haste – to get the laundry done, I always seem to forget to use!)
Sure, its a few extra steps in the laundry process, but just like how my bright shorts pair up nicely with my neutral tops, my clothes felt softer and looked brighter when I use these products together.
What outfits are you looking forward to pairing together this summer?

LOVE this! I always want to wear bright colors, but feel like they’re over powering up top- your examples are just what I have been looking for!!

I love the clothing matches – I never, ever think cream in the summer. I think crisp, bright whites and I pack all my creams away until fall. I will have to give this a try and mix it up this summer!

Those outfits you put together at the top are SO cute! I love the striped shirts with bold colored shorts. I need to get a summer wardrobe started – thanks for the ideas!
