Like all kids, my two are pros when it comes to bedtime stalling. Each has their own strategy. Buddy tries to plead his case to read “one more book,” even playing the whole “I have to read for school!” card.
Mimi, on the other hand, plays on the heartstrings, asking for “one more hug” and “one more snuggle.” Then she’ll lay in bed and sing. For like twenty minutes until she eventually falls asleep. Sometimes it’s a Taylor Swift night. Others it’s the “Annie” soundtrack. And if we’re really lucky, we get treated to Adele-Taylor Swift-Katy Perry mash-ups.
Or, in the case of our recent trip to Grandma’s for Thanksgiving, both kids joined in on a duet of Adele’s “Hello,” which was pretty hysterical.
Netflix recently polled parents around the world and more than 60% of parents around the globe are dealing with kids’ stall tactics before bed, adding up to nearly 20 minutes every single night.
I guess that means my kiddos are a mix between Master Negotiator and The Flatterer.
If you also have a Master Negotiator on your hands, Netflix is coming to the rescue. Next time you find yourself in the bedtime battle, tell your kids they can watch an ENTIRE show before bed because Netflix and DreamWorks Animation recently launched Dinotrux 5 Minute Favorites, new episodes of the show, all in little 5-minute packages. So now your little negotiator will think they’re getting away with the ‘just five more minutes’ ploy. <insert evil laugh>
Here are some other bedtime stalling tactics you may have heard of …
What other funny (or manipulative?) excuses have your kids given to try and stay up past their bedtimes?
