Last year, I sat down with Buddy and talked about Thanksgiving and what it meant to him. I was truly touched by his responses when I asked him what he was thankful for; they sort of caught me off guard by how thoughtful and sweet they were.
This year? Hmm, well, they aren’t as touchy-feely as last year and are more … I don’t know … factual, but they still made me smile. (I like how the fact that I provide him food and shelter was a common theme?)
As you’ll see, I varied the questions a bit from last year, just to see what he’d say …
1. Who is your current hero… and why?
My teacher. She’s pretty nice and she helps people.
2. So what’s up with this whole Thanksgiving thing? What’s it all about?
It’s about a holiday to give thanks for what you’re thankful for. Just like the Pilgrims and the Wampanoags.
3.What is your favorite part about Thanksgiving?
You get to see your relatives from far, far away. And you get a big feast.
4. What is your favorite and least favorite food at Thanksgiving?
My favorite is turkey and my least favorite is stuffing.
5. Who is your favorite relative to see during the holidays?
Grandma!!! I love her so much.
6. What are you most thankful for this Thanksgiving?
For my family and friends. And for Mommy and Daddy because you bought us a house and give us food and water … it’s like you’re taking care of us.
7. If you had $1 dollar to give anyone in the world, who would you give it to and why?
I would give it to Nana and Papa because they’re part of our family.
8. What is one thing that you do with Mommy or Daddy now that makes you happy?
We play together and we read books. You make dinner for us. And you give us hugs and kisses.
Wishing all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving and Thanksgivingukkah!
Do you ever ask your kids what they’re thankful for? What funny (or sweet) things have they said?
